This is me when I was a kid. The cute guy looking at his toes is my brother. Man, the stuff we used to get up to.
Back then I lived in South Africa. We rode elephants to school and had to avoid the lions lurking in the long grass.
Okay, not really. We lived in a city called Johannesburg and the only wild animals we ran into were pigeons and super-ginormous crickets – we called them Devil crickets.

Now I live in New Jersey with my husband and sons. As you can see, I’m all grown up, but, sometimes I still feel like that girl from South Africa. That’s probably why I like to write children’s books. When I was a kid, I loved reading scary stories, and funny stories, and who-dunnit stories. These are the kinds of stories I write.
Some days writing is hard – it doesn’t come out quite right. Then there are the days when it flows – poetry in motion.
I write because if I don’t, the ideas and characters in my head get loud. I probably sound a little nutty, but I think a little nutty is a good thing.
I write because it makes me happy. The more I write, the happier I am. And the more I write the better my writing gets. It’s a win-win.
So that’s me in a nutshell.
